Caro Dottor Lupia,

(ENGLISH TRANSLATION)

Dear Doctor Lupia.

The Exposition of the Shroud has reached a happy ending and we thank the Lord for having so many pilgrims who came to strengthen their faith.

For some months you have discussed your arguments about your theory concerning the origin of the Shroud with Dr. Mechthild Flury-Lemberg., with me and with our Cardinal Archbishop Pontifical Custodian of the Shroud.

We have all been in admiration for the zeal with which you continue to work to get close to the heart of the mystery of the Shroud and the love that you nurture for the cause of the Shroud, which is the cause of Jesus himself.

We are waiting to hear the expert decision of scientists on the results that you reached and published in the book (where you so kindly acknowledged us).

We hope that something that took so much research will be useful to enrich the discussions on the origin of the Shroud.

In the name of his Eminence our Cardinal Archbishop and mine, I thank you for your gift and hope that our International Center of 'Sindonology' will be able to continue fruitful dialog with you.

Let us be united in prayer.

With affectionate esteem I salute you.

Yours, Don Giuseppe Ghiberti
